SLHS senior accepted to Colgate University

San Luis High School senior Jonathan Villanueva has accepted a full-ride scholarship to Colgate University.

Colgate University is a distinctive, leading American university known for its intellectual rigor and world-class professors. The university challenges students to be enlightened thinkers while preparing them to be global citizens who will thrive in life and in work.

Villanueva began looking for a school outside of Arizona with the belief that being far from home greatly develops character, intellect, and maturity. Colgate sparked his interest when he learned that the private liberal arts college has a teacher-to-student ratio of 9:1 and an academic honor code that aligns to his personal beliefs. So, he applied. Jonathan Villanueva

Regarding how prepared he is for this new life adventure, Villanueva said, “San Luis High School has definitely helped shape my character and strengthen my drive as I see that we are mostly low-income, minority students. Yet, our teachers don’t stop trying to make us exploit our full potential.”

In addition to being accepted, Villanueva was offered a renewable scholarship totaling $78,000 for the 2019-20 school year. Starting in the fall he intends to study economics and international market relations, with the end goal of working as a financial analyst or in the trade market.  Colgate University is highly supportive of having their students study abroad, undertaking internships and other programs.

“There is no doubt that hard work and perseverance leads to a rewarding and exhilarating result,” Villanueva said.
