San Luis High School moves to single-track bell schedule in 2018-19

San Luis High School announced that they will utilize a single-track bell schedule beginning in the 2018-19 school year.

The school day will begin at 7:20 a.m. for all students with the final period of the day ending at 1 p.m. on Monday and 2:20 p.m. Tuesday through Friday. San Luis will continue to offer three lunch periods.

In previous years, San Luis used a double-track schedule with students starting and ending school at separate times depending on grade level and other factors. The switch to a single-track schedule is expected to improve the level of safety for students and staff; provide equitable student access to campus opportunities and systems of support, such as extra-curricular activities and academic interventions; and optimize the Professional Learning Community design and collaboration needs for faculty.

"The decision to potentially change the bell schedule has been a topic of discussion for well over a year now,” SLHS Principal Tammy Ray said. “I really believe we have a great plan in place that will offer, not only a safer environment, but one that supports optimal outcomes for both our students and staff. This plan is the result of valued stakeholder feedback and dialogue.”

SLHS solicited feedback on multiple occasions from students, parents and staff regarding the schedule change.
