Keiley Sharp wins javelin event in New Mexico

Kofa High School’s Keiley Sharp won the javelin event at the Great Southwest Classic in Albuquerque, New Mexico this weekend.

Sharp, a junior, used a personal record throw of 150-8 to capture the title by more than 20 feet over second place finisher Hannah Sayyeau from New Mexico. The field at the GSWC featured student-athletes from across the southwest, including some of the of the nation’s top competitors from Utah, Louisiana, New Mexico, Arizona, Missouri and Texas.

The victory was the latest in a string of accomplishments for Kofa’s three-sport star. She was selected as the Yuma Sun/Rotary Track Athlete of the Year in May. She was also named to the 6A Conference Student Leadership Committee and won the Arizona Interscholastic Association state title in the javelin and finished third at state in the high jump.
