Kofa student invited to Summer Journalism Institute at ASU

Kofa High School junior Lauren Zaragoza has been invited to the 2019 Summer Journalism Institute hosted by the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication at Arizona State University from June 2-14, 2019.

Zaragoza, a self described writing enthusiast, has been interested in journalism since she participated in a middle school journalism program and has continued that passion in high school. Zaragoza has been writing short stories and doing some photojournalism work during her time at Kofa.

“I want to be a journalist,” she said. “I’m very excited [to attend the summer institute].”

Zaragoza’s invitation includes a scholarship to cover any costs while she attends.

According to its website, the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication brings top-performing high school students to ASU for two weeks of intensive, hands-on experiences in broadcast and digital journalism. Students get to experience living on campus, meeting other student journalists from around the country, and get a chance to work in the “state-of-the-art Cronkite newsrooms, studios and labs” while interacting with journalism professionals.
