Kofa JROTC Rifle Team takes first place at state event

Kofa High School’s Marine Corps JROTC Rifle Program competed in the MCJROTC Rifle Postal, which included all MCJROTC units throughout the country.

Kofa was represented by 12 students who all participated in shooting 10 rounds in the prone, standing, and kneeling positions. After taking part in the competition in November, scores were returned in mid-December and Kofa’s program was declared the overall winner. rifle team

Kofa students held four of the top five individual rankings, and claimed both first and second in the team competition. Kofa junior Nickolas Wissler placed 34th out of 1,703 competitors, while Kofa’s Team 1 placed 27th out of 369 teams. Both Wissler and Team 1 will be competing in the regional championship in February.

“This is a monumental event in the program,” said Kofa MCJROTC instructor Maj. Todd Birney. “The rifle team did very well despite having a new coach and not having a rifle team for the past two years. We are very proud of their accomplishments and look to build on them next year.”
