Kofa High School teacher named Yuma County Teacher of the Year

Kofa High School teacher Kaisa Tabor was named Kaisa Tabor with award Yuma County Teacher of the Year by the Education Foundation of Yuma County.

“I’m just doing my job and doing what’s best for kids, so to be recognized for it is amazing and I am still in shock over it,” Tabor said.

Tabor realized she wanted to be a teacher since she was in middle school. After getting her degree in English Education, she started her teaching career in 2008 and moved to Yuma County in 2014. She started out working in Crane Elementary School District and later moved on to teach at Kofa in 2016.

Tabor is currently teaching English as a Second Language (ESL).

“She is representing every single teacher, administrator, and staff member here at Kofa with this award,” Kofa Principal Lillian Campa said. “There's no one else who deserves this award more than Kaisa Tabor.”

The Education Foundation presented the award at its annual banquet on April 25 at the Yuma Civic Center.

The Yuma County Teacher of the Year Banquet is held annually by the Education Foundation of Yuma, a private, non-profit organization established to support and recognize the profession of teaching and raise public awareness of the importance and value of education.

Tabor is one of many Kofa teachers in recent years who have been recognized as part of the Yuma County Teacher of the Year of the program. Former Kofa teachers Jayden Gubbels and Christie Nicholson were named County High School Teachers of the Year in 2020 and 2019, respectively.
