Special Education Services at Yuma Union High School District #70
At Yuma Union High School District #70, we are committed to supporting all students, including
those with unique learning needs. We offer a full range of special education and related services
to help students with disabilities succeed in school.
To receive special education services, a student must:
- Have a disability that meets the criteria under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA);
- Show that the disability impacts their learning and educational performance; and
- Need specially designed instruction to help them access and make progress in the general education curriculum.
If you think your child may need special education services, we’re here to help. Our team will
work with you every step of the way to determine the best support(s) for your child’s success.

Interventions and Support for Your Student
At Yuma Union High School District #70, we are committed to helping every student succeed. If your child is currently enrolled in our district or transferring from another school and you have concerns about their learning or development, we are here to support you.
If you notice your student is struggling in areas such as:
- Learning and academics
- Communication skills
- Fine or gross motor skills
- Hearing or vision
- Social or behavioral skills
Please reach out to your child’s teacher or the school administration. Together, we can develop a plan to address your concerns.
It’s important to know that not all students who experience challenges have a disability. Sometimes students may just need extra support or learn at a different pace. If a disability is not suspected, the first step is often through an intervention process.
Yuma Union High School District #70 uses a Multi-Tiered System of Support (MTSS), also known as Response to Intervention (RTI). This is a proactive, school-wide framework designed to help every student thrive. It provides:
- Targeted academic and behavioral support
- Differentiated learning opportunities
- Continuous progress monitoring and data collection
The goal is to identify areas of need early and provide effective interventions to ensure your child’s success.
If you have any questions about interventions or the MTSS process, please contact your school. We’re here to partner with you and support your student every step of the way.
