Online Academic Tools
Welcome to the Yuma Union High School District Online Learning section. The two primary modes of online course delivery are through the Canvas Learning Management System and Yuma Online Distance Academy (YODA). For credit recovery, YUHSD utilizes Edgenuity. To access information about any of our online learning platforms, please click a link to the left or one of the buttons below.
Purpose: Online assignments, assessments, and information that students can access at anytime.
Teachers use Canvas as an online extension of their classroom. Teachers can opt to have students complete assignments, quizzes, and tests in this system. These types of assessments can be as simple as to check for understanding at the end of a lesson or as a unit test. Canvas is also used by teachers to keep resources such as a course syllabus, instructor notes, study guides, and more. Note: Although students may be completing assignments, quizzes, and tests in Canvas, please remember that ALL final grades are recorded in Synergy.
YUHSD uses Synergy as our Student Information System (SIS). You can access Synergy through the ParentVUE portal to view student grades, attendance, contact teachers, and more.
Yuma Online Distance Academy (YODA) is an Internet instructional program provided through Yuma Union High School District (YUHSD.) Courses are available from 9th through 12th grade high school students, and a student may earn a high school diploma through one of our traditional high schools (Cibola, Gila Ridge, Kofa, San Luis, Somerton, and Yuma High School) or at Vista High School upon successful completion.
What is “Distance Learning"?
Distance learning is a state-of-the-art concept in education. Students are able to complete their high school coursework online, and their online instructors stay in regular contact with them to promote success. The curriculum is interactive, flexible, and rigorous. YODA courses are designed by certified teachers and are aligned to state and national standards.
Course Information
A certified teacher is the instructor for each YODA course. Students are free to work at their own pace following a lesson checklist to guide them successfully in course completion. YODA students experience a multitude of activities with a mixture of multimedia, videos, online quizzes, and downloadable assignments. Student progress may be monitored 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
WhyDistance Learning?
YODA welcomes back into school those students who may have stopped attending a traditional high school, and it also offers currently enrolled students the opportunity to take extra classes. YODA is a flexible and personalized way to earn a high school diploma, where students can work at their own pace and can learn from anywhere via online technology. Please note: students seeking enrollment in YODA may only enroll via their home campus/the campus in which they live within attendance boundaries.
Edgenuity is the online learning platform that gives students an opportunity to make up missing credits. This robust platform allows for customized courses based on what the student already knows. Please reach out to your counselor for additional questions.
Yuma Union High School District uses ParentSquare for school communication, primarily with email, text and app notifications. ParentSquare automatically generates an account for each parent, using their preferred email address and phone number. We encourage parents to access their accounts so they can download the mobile app and update their preferences on when and how they are notified.

Report bullying or safety concerns using our communications app called Anonymous Alerts®
What is the Anonymous Alerts app?
The Anonymous Alerts anti-bullying and safety app reporting system helps combat bullying and other negative activity in schools by empowering students to speak up. Social and peer pressure are some of the hardest obstacles for students to overcome.
The system allows for 1-way or 2-way anonymous encrypted communications between submitters (students, parents or community members) and district administration and/or school staff. Users of the system have the option to remain anonymous or reveal their identity when submitting a report.
How does it work?
To use this revolutionary new app, students, parents or other school personnel can simply visit the Yuma Union High School District website and click on the “Anonymous Alerts” button or text link to submit a report expressing their concern. Anonymous Alerts® mobile applications can be downloaded
directly from the Apple, Google Play or the Chrome stores. Yuma Union High School District supplies students an activation code, making the app remarkably easy to use and students select which school the message should go to. In addition, informational posters explaining how to use the app will be displayed throughout schools and offices in the district.
