Frequently Asked Questions
-
If my student must be absent, what is the absence procedure?
Posted by:Successful completion of course work is two fold: the student must meet academic standards and exhibit consistent attendance. Consistent attendance is defined as fewer than five absences in any class during a semester. However, if a student is absent, parents are encouraged to call in, but should realize that a phone call does not absolve the student of the responsibility to make up the absence once the absences exceed five. We encourage parents to reinforce with their student the importance of attending all of their classes. There is no substitution for actual classroom attendance. Lectures, exercises, academic activities, tests, student discussions, media presentations, lab work, and teacher assistance are each vital to academic success and learning. To see a full list of excused and unexcused absences, please review the student handbook.

What is the school's tardy policy?
Posted by:Any student who is not inside the classroom or present at the designated class area when the bell rings is considered tardy, regardless of cause. Time has been built into the bell schedule to allow students ample time to pass to their next classroom site from any point on each campus within the designated passing period.
-
Can my student leave campus during the school day?
Posted by:Our school has a closed campus. If your student needs to leave campus during the school day, he or she must check out through the attendance office. Permission from parents will normally be required. Work-study situations, school activities, senior early-outs, or other previously approved departures from campus are the exceptions.

What is the "Learning Center"?
Posted by:The Learning Center is an alternate means of earning high school credit. Students may take classes to supplement the work they are doing on their home campus. Students who are not attending school may take courses to complete diploma requirements. The Learning Center is an open entry/open exit program. The program strives to motivate students to succeed and encourages them to complete high school graduation requirements. Students who decide to work for credit through the Learning Center may enroll at any time. The work for each course is given to the student in a packet. Much of the work can be completed independently at home, although some assignments and all tests are taken at the Learning Center. Students are welcome to come to the Learning Center for assistance or to work on their course(s).

How often can I expect to receive a report card?

Third and sixth report cards indicate semester grades while all other cards are six-week progress reports.
