The goal of the Hybrid model is to have 50% of the students in our buildings and classrooms each day in order to reduce capacity and adhere to all social distancing guidelines. All students will be divided alphabetically (A-L) or (M-Z) and attend school in-person two days a week.

All students will be divided alphabetically (A-L) or (M-Z) and attend school in-person two days a week. Students will also be expected to be learning on their three distance learning days and will have independent study/assignment activities that are related to the previous day or next day.
Simultaneously teaching students in the classroom, as well as students who are logging in from home would create a very complicated scenario for our teachers. YUHSD recognizes the value for a teacher to see students and make that important personal connection if possible every other day.
Students who choose the distance learning on Canvas option will work independently on Canvas Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. On Wednesday they will be on camera with their teachers and follow the six-period schedule for their campus. For example: if the student attends Yuma High, they would be on camera for their first period class at 7:45 on Wednesday. The on-camera portion of that class would end at 8:30 and second period would begin on camera at 8:36. While the student will work independently on Canvas the other four days, they will still have on-camera access to their teacher from 1:15-3 p.m. each day. They can ask their teacher questions, and work in groups during this time.
The COVID-19 waiver, release and assumption of risk form can be accessed and signed on your ParentVUE account. Furthermore, the waiver can also be downloaded and signed on yumaunion.org: https://www.yumaunion.org/domain/2491. The waiver must be signed and returned to your campus before a student can attend in-person learning.
YUHSD will allow students in the same household to attend school on the same days.

YUHSD will ensure that students with IEPs are provided the special education and related services identified in their IEP, to the greatest extent possible. Continued educational opportunities must be individualized based on student need.
Yes. YUHSD expects all students and staff to wear a protective face covering or face mask that completely covers the nose and mouth. YUHSD encourages parents to help their student become comfortable wearing a mask, by practicing wearing a mask and gradually building up usage time.
If your student is unable to wear a mask at school, due to a pre-existing medical condition, please reach out to your student’s counselor and school nurse.
During distance learning days students will be completing assignments independently, some of which will focus on topics already discussed and some on subjects not yet tackled in the classroom. Every teacher will develop a procedure that works best for your student’s class, ensuring regular teacher-student interactions and a quality education experience, whether in-school or at home.
No. Students will transition between class periods throughout their day on campus.
Yes, all students taking part in Hybrid Learning on campus will have the opportunity to pick up no-cost breakfast before school.

Students who attend Vista High School are able to commute to school via a no-cost bus pass through Yuma County Area Transit. Please contact the Vista High School office at (928) 502-6800 for more information.
We are committed to support the learning of all student and ensuring equitable learning opportunities to enable students with disabilities to progress in meeting learning needs and social emotional learning continues to be the aim of IEP and 504 teams. Our Return to Learning Plan relies heavily on decisions made by each student’s IEP or 504 team.
Throughout the duration of the school year, parents and families can expect the following:
- Parents must be involved in any decision about an individual child’s placement or services under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) or Section 504.
- The IEP team will review the specialized services and supports prescribed in the current IEP. They will also document the status of the services and supports during the school closure, as well as the effect of that level of support and service. IEP teams will then ascertain individual needs and determine if the IEP should be amended or rewritten to reflect changes to services and supports, which will include a fully virtual learning plan that can be implemented at any time, if needed.\
- Special education teachers will continue to collaborate with general education teachers to provide scaffolds, accommodations and modifications for students with disabilities in both physical and virtual settings. Special education teachers will communicate frequently with families to ensure student needs are being met in both the physical and virtual settings.

- Distance yourself from others, including staying in groups of fewer than 10 people at once.

- Plan for if/when community spread occurs.
Some people of Chinese and Asian decent are facing stigma in their communities, regardless of whether they been exposed to COVID-19.
FACT: People—including those of Asian descent—who have not recently traveled to China or been in contact with a person who is a confirmed or suspected case of COVID-19 are not at greater risk of acquiring and spreading COVID-19 than other Americans.
Speak out against negative behaviors, including negative statements on social media about groups of people, or exclusion of people, who pose no risk from regular activities.
- If you see someone being treated unfairly, do not stay silent.
- If you feel comfortable, you can firmly but calmly tell the person to stop.
- If you don’t want to talk to the person who is harassing someone, you can also focus on the individual who is being treated unfairly. Make small talk, ask them how their day is going, and ignore the person harassing them.
- Tips for bystanders are simple actions anyone can use.
