  • If my student must be absent, what is the procedure?

    Successful completion of course work is two fold: the student must meet academic standards and exhibit consistent attendance. Consistent attendance is defined as fewer than five absences in any class during a semester. However, if a student is absent, parents are encouraged to call in, but should realize that a phone call does not absolve the student of the responsibility to make up the absence once the absences exceed five. We encourage parents to reinforce with their student the importance of attending all of their classes. There is no substitution for actual classroom attendance. Lectures, exercises, academic activities, tests, student discussions, media presentations, lab work, and teacher assistance are each vital to academic success and learning.   • What is the school's tardy policy?

    Any student who is not inside the classroom or present at the designated class area when the bell rings is considered tardy, regardless of cause. Time has been built into the bell schedule to allow students ample time to pass to their next classroom site from any point on each campus within the designated passing period.

  • Can my student leave campus during the school day?

    Our school has a closed campus. If your student needs to leave campus during the school day, he or she must check out through the attendance office. Permission from parents will normally be required. Work-study situations, school activities, senior early-outs, or other previously approved departures from campus are the exceptions.

  • How often can I expect to receive a report card?

    We will send progress report cards home with students at the end of each marking period so that you may monitor grades, school attendance, and eligibility for extra-curricular activities. We will mail home third and sixth marking period report cards, which indicate semester grades. You may also access your child's grades through the internet by using Parent Portal. Please feel free to contact our office for the user name and password.

  • Is there a campus bookstore?

    Yes. The Cibola High Bookstore is located on the main courtyard mall. Students may pay fees and purchase school items during business hours of 7:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. All students will be issued netbooks without charge. Parent(s)/student(s) will be charged for lost or damaged netbooks regardless of the circumstances. Students must pay all fees owed to the bookstore before they can participate in extra-curricular activities, dances, privilege activities, pre-registration, and the graduation ceremony. The school is not responsible for items stolen or damaged on campus, including vehicles or property in vehicles. The owner assumes all risks for vehicles and personal property brought to school

  • Are there any charges for class materials?

    Course costs vary, depending on fees and materials used by students. The costs of individual projects will be the responsibility of each student. Our school operates a nonprofit bookstore for the convenience of the students and carries most instructional materials and supplies. Required netbooks and related printed subject matter materials are furnished for all pupils according to state law. Students are responsible for replacement costs of lost or damaged netbooks/materials.

  • Are meals available to my student?

    Our school cafeteria serves breakfast and lunch daily. Qualifying students may receive free or reduced price lunches. All student receive free breakfast. If you would like to apply for your high school student to receive a free or reduced lunch meal card, please pick up an application at registration in August or at your student's school cafeteria or at the District Food Services Office.   • Is there bus service to the school?

    Bus transportation is provided for students who live more than 2 miles from school. Students must present their I.D. to board the bus and must comply with all regulations. Failure to comply may result in loss of bus privileges. Transportation services will be provided to students with disabilities if transportation services are required in the student's Individual Education Plan (IEP).   • Are student lockers provided?

    Lockers are available for P.E., weightlifting, and dance classes only. Student lockers are school property and remain under the control of the school. The school reserves the right to open any locker for reasonable cause. Students should protect their property by keeping the locker locked and guarding the combination. Under no circumstances should money or valuables be kept in the locker. Students who share a locker with another student compromise the security of the locker. The school is not responsible for items stolen or damaged on campus. The owner assumes all risks for books and personal property brought to school.

  • Can my student bring a cell phone to school?

    Yes, students may possess cell phones on school district property and at school sponsored activities. However, they may not turn on or use their cell phones on school grounds until the end of the official instructional day. It is the students' responsibility to ensure that their cell phones are turned off and out of sight during the instructional day. Any student who violates the above rules is subject to disciplinary action according to the student code of conduct. The school is not responsible for items stolen or damaged on campus. The owner assumes all risks for cell phones and personal property brought to school.

  • Are visitors allowed on campus?

    For the safety of students and staff, district policy does not permit visitors to high school campuses during the school day under most circumstances. Parents, of course, are always welcome on campus, but are encouraged to make appointments when attempting to visit teachers during the school day. All visitors, parents included, are required to report to the administrative offices to obtain a visitor pass before entering the campus area. Students should not invite friends or relatives to visit on campus, nor should they bring younger children to school except for approved school programs. Visitor passes will normally be issued only to those persons known by the administration. Visitor passes will not be issued during final examinations. Administrators may refuse anyone a visitor pass. Any person found on school grounds without permission will be considered a trespasser and subject to immediate arrest.

  • Can my child park on campus?

    Yes, your child may park on campus. A school-issued parking sticker is required to park on campus during the school day for all students. We reserve the right to revoke these privileges if any student fails to adhere to campus driving and parking regulations. Student parking in the north lot on 18th Street and in the south lot on 20th Street is open to all students with valid parking stickers on their vehicles. A copy of the campus-parking regulations is given out when the student applies for a campus-parking sticker. Student vehicles that do not have stickers must be parked in legal parking off campus.

    Students must provide all of the following in order to receive a parking sticker:

    A current student ID
    A valid Arizona driver's license
    A copy of the current Arizona vehicle registration
    Proof of insurance meeting at least minimum Arizona requirement
    Receipt of payment to the bookstore

  • What is required in order to graduate?

    In order to earn a Yuma Union High School District diploma, students are subject to graduation requirements that include credit requirements and competency test requirements adopted by the State Board of Education. For information on the Arizona State Standards, feel free to go to their website. All graduation requirements must be met before students are allowed to participate in commencement exercises.

    Students with grade point averages of three point five (3.5) or higher shall be designated as graduating with honors. Graduation requirements are outlined below.

    Credit Requirements

    A minimum of twenty-two (22) units of credit are required for graduation.

    English: four (4) credits
    Mathematics: four (4) credits
    Science: three (3) credits.
    Social Studies: three (3) creditsOne (1) credit for World History

    One-half (1/2) credit for Government
    One-half (1/2) credit for Economics
    Physical Education/Health: one (1) credit

  • What if I have problems with my netbook not working properly?

    Right next to the bookstore is the "Netbook Tech Room" where any Cibola student with a district issued netbook can get assistance with fixing netbook issues. This service is open before and after school, Monday-Friday, from 7:00 a.m.- 7:45 a.m. and 2:45 p.m.-3:30 p.m.
